Dan's 97 year old father passed away on October 7, 2015, only two days after talking to Dan. They had a good visit and said how much they loved each other. Our son, Andrew, represented our family.
We last visited Dad in Chicago during this past Easter with Angela and two boys. The boys always liked to go visit Great PaPa. The retirement home where Dad lived have large fishtanks, a fun bowling game and lots of grandmas and grandpas who appreciated the little ones. The boys also loved riding trains in the city. They have many fond memories of Dad.
Dad taught the boys to say, "I love you from the sky to the moon to the mud." I don't know what it means exactly but I guess it means I love you very much. Dan misses talking to Dad two, three times a week and he still has unmailed post cards... It still feels strange praying without asking Dad to be comfortable every morning... But we know Dad is happy to be with Mom. We are grateful for Tom and Laurel for their support. We still think of Dad often...
